| MALE OR FEMALE?? Are you undecided about adopting a male puppy? The stereotypes for males, such as hiking of the leg to mark territory, humping on things, etc...are common reasons why some people do not adopt a male. Here are a few opinions from my experiences that may help you in your decision making. If you neuter a male at a young age, you remove the normal male hormonal tendencies that I mentioned above. The desirable male traits include an even more obedient and affectionate puppy. Females tend to be a bit more temperamental. Males tend to be more playful, even in their elder years. A female will love you, but a male will be in love with you! Males that have been neutered early are easy to potty train and they will tend to squat like females. Most of the doggy squabbles in my house are usually among the females. My males rarely squabble. It is cheaper and easier to neuter than to spay and recovery time is quicker and easier. The purchase price for males is usually cheaper because there are usually more males born than females. Don't get me wrong! Females make excellent pets, but males make excellent pets, too! I spend every day with my dogs and puppies and every one has a different personality regardless of their sex. So, when you decide to choose your life-long companion, don't let gender myths stand in your way. Pick from your heart and you won't be disappointed! |
